Call For Papers

The IFAC conference series on Analysis and Design of Hybrid Systems (ADHS) focuses on the broad field of hybrid dynamic systems in all its aspects. Hybrid systems arise wherever continuous and discrete dynamics interact, as it is the case in many high-tech systems, where logic-based components, digital networks, and embedded controllers are combined with continuous physical processes. As systems become increasingly complex, hybrid systems theory and engineering are indispensable for their modeling, design, analysis, and security. The rise of paradigms as networked control systems and cyber-physical systems, along with widespread industry interest in digital twins, provides further impetus to this fascinating field of research, which can also leverage emerging tools in data driven approaches to verification and design, machine learning and, more broadly, in artificial intelligence. The conference is intended to be a meeting place for researchers from the scientific domains of control engineering, computer science and applied mathematics, and for practitioners from several application domains, such as process industry, automotive, avionics, communication networks, energy systems, transportation networks, embedded systems, manufacturing, autonomous systems and robotics, biology and other sciences. We encourage submission of papers, describing concrete applications, with at least one co-author with industrial affiliation for organizing dedicated sessions. This format is extended also to other domains including e.g. healthcare, public administration. The previous ADHS were held in Saint-Malo, France (2003), Alghero, Italy (2006), Zaragoza, Spain (2009), Eindhoven, The Netherlands (2012), Atlanta, GA, USA (2015), Oxford, UK (2018), in Brussels, Belgium (2021), and Boulder, Colorado, USA (2024). They have all been sponsored by IFAC.

Special issue of extended ADHS conference papers in NAHS:

Continuing the tradition of previous ADHS conferences, an ADHS special issue will also be published in NAHS for this event. This issue comprises selected papers, chosen by the IPC chairs who assume the role of guest editors for NAHS. To make these selections, the guest editors will consider the reviewers' evaluations and final review scores assigned to the papers to be presented at ADHS. The criteria for selection include reviewer evaluations, their own assessments, and the aim of encompassing a wide array of topics to ensure comprehensive coverage of the main fields represented at ADHS 2027. Authors of the chosen papers are encouraged to submit an extended version of their conference paper (excluding extended abstracts). These submissions will undergo the regular review process employed by NAHS. Given the pre-selection by the guest editors, we anticipate a swift evaluation process and shorter decision times. If the outcome is positive, the papers will be promptly published, aligning with the typical expeditious publication standards upheld by NAHS.

NAHS dissemination papers: All authors whose journal papers have been recently accepted or published in NAHS will be invited to submit a 1-2 page extended abstract. This extended abstract should follow the standard layout for IFAC conference papers and should present the results from their journal paper, including any recent extensions. It is important to clearly cite the NAHS paper within the extended abstract. By submitting the extended abstract, authors confirm their intention to present their work in-person during the conference dates in L’Aquila. Unlike regular submissions to ADHS, which consist of 6 pages, these extended abstracts will not be published on IFAC PapersOnline. However, they will be made available to conference participants to ensure sufficient exposure for the research. All authors of NAHS papers published in 2025-2026 (excluding those included in special issues related to other conferences or workshops) and authors of recently accepted papers before October 1st, 2026, will receive an invitation to present their work at ADHS 2027.

Author Guidelines

Regular papers: Regular papers can have a length of up to 8 pages at submission. Accepted papers are limited to 6 pages in the conference on-line proceedings.

NAHS dissemination papers (extended abstracts): Extended abstracts for NAHS can vary in length from 1 to 2 pages at the time of submission. These extended abstracts should adhere to the standard layout for IFAC conference papers. Authors, by submitting their extended abstract, are affirming their commitment to both register for and present their work in person during the conference dates in L’Aquila. It is important to note that these extended abstracts will not be published on IFAC PapersOnLine. Nevertheless, they will be accessible to conference participants to ensure adequate exposure for the research.

Support for Authors: Author's kits with style (.cls) files for LaTeX is available at this link.

Submissions and Registration Policies

The website for submission is: IFAC Papercept.

All papers submitted to ADHS 2027 must be written in English and formatted in the standard IFAC 2-column format provided on the IFAC Conference Management System website (see the item "Support for Authors" above).

For initial submissions, all regular and invited session papers are limited to 8 pages. The submission website will not permit longer papers to be uploaded.

For the final upload, all accepted and invited papers are limited to 6 pages.

For each accepted paper, at least one of the authors should have a full registration in order to have the paper included in the preprints and the post-conference on-line proceedings.

Copyright Conditions

All publication material submitted for presentation at an IFAC-sponsored meeting (Congress, Symposium, Conference, Workshop) must be original and hence cannot be already published, nor can it be under review elsewhere. The authors take responsibility for the material that has been submitted. IFAC-sponsored conferences will abide by the highest standard of ethical behavior in the review process as explained on the Elsevier webpage, and the authors will abide by the IFAC publication ethics guidelines.

Accepted papers that have been presented at an IFAC meeting will be published in the proceedings of the event using the open-access IFAC-PapersOnLine series hosted on ScienceDirect. To this end, the author(s) must grant exclusive publishing rights to IFAC under a Creative Commons license when they submit the final version of the paper. The copyright belongs to the authors, who have the right to share the paper in the same terms allowed by the end user license, and retain all patent, trademark and other intellectual property rights (including research data).

AI Usage Rule

In the case of the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and/or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, the authors remain responsible for the document produced, and must disclose the AI use by adding a statement at the end of the manuscript in the core manuscript file, before the References list. The statement should be placed in a section entitled “Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process.” See the templates at https://www.ifac-control.org/conferences/author-guide
